Resumen:
The main purpose of this work is to give a proposal on how to use Project Based
Learning methodology, this will be applied to learning English vocabulary, in addition,
consider cultural aspects such as holidays.
Nowadays, learning English is an important part of student’s curriculum because this
gives them many opportunities to take part in student exchanges, search more
scientific research for their homework, and so on, furthermore learn this language
can be useful in the future, for example, get a better job or go abroad to improve
their skills, moreover, learn this language is not only memorizing vocabulary lists or
learn by heart grammar aspects because language is more than that.
Learning a new language has to be practical, in this case, the learner has to be able
to communicate in the language in real contexts and understand cultural aspects.
For those reasons, this research work is based on a qualitative methodology and
documentary, that give as a result three chapters, the first one is about how the
language is acquired, the stages of this process according to Stephen Krashen, how
the mother tongue is involve in the process to learn the second language, the second
chapter is about Project Based Learning, characteristics, how this methodology
works, teacher and studentroles, finally, in chapter three the proposal is given based
on the previous chapters.
The activities in chapter three were designed according to the Project-Based
Learning methodology, also according to which activities young learners can
perform, the main objective of these activities is that students acquired more
vocabulary in context through a series of stages that has an impact on the learning
process as a result of these sequences it is the final product, such as storytelling,
costume catwalks, just to mention a few.
