Resumen:
This proposal arises from the need to work on reading comprehension skills with students in a group of first year secondary school students at the Lúmina Montessori School, and thus contribute to obtaining better results, not only in the subjects of English and Spanish, but also in the rest of the subjects they study during the school year, once students achieve understanding of what they read it will be reflected in all the academic activities they perform.
The subject in the school is called: foreign language: English and belongs to the formative field: language and communication. The didactic resources used now are: a textbook from the Macmillan publishing house, audiovisual resources from the Internet proposed by the teacher, open digital libraries. The school library has a section of textbooks of different levels and various publishers, English-Spanish-Spanish-English dictionaries.
Therefore, working on the design of activities with authentic material might allow the reading comprehension of students, since the likings and characteristics and learning models will be considered.
In this work the reader will find theoretical information about the topic of reading, reading comprehension, text and textual typology, as well as the description of authentic texts and activities designed according to what students require for the achievement of reading comprehension of texts in English.
The work will be structured as follows:
Chapter I will provide a theoretical overview of reading, reading comprehension and its importance, as well as reading levels and strategies.
Chapter II will describe the types of text.
Chapter III will describe the proposal of activities based on authentic material.
